12. Taking control of the situation from a crooked HOA
From the sounds of it, this is what more people need to do about their corrupt HOAs. Our HOA engaged a management firm to handle the day-to-day operations. That meant a person would ride around taking pictures of minor infractions and mailing them to the homeowners. I got into so many fights over nothing.
"Well, it turns out that the HOA had no teeth behind the violations because the regulations didn't allow for fines." Someone had the brilliant notion to begin levying penalties to guarantee compliance. That's when I ran for and won the board's vice presidency. Another individual who was fed up with this nonsense ran and won. We didn't have the authority to dissolve the HOA, so we decided to paralyze it instead. The board would never be able to conduct business if we were not present. And they've never done so."
