It will also encourage you to give an animal your love and somebody to hold you there. Most shelters or foster home organizations will pay for necessities and medical care.
Consider having a difference in an animal's life and giving it the chance to live in a real home rather than a shelter. You will stick, but the pain will eventually be worth it when the pet comes home forever.
