The central character of the story, young Kevin McCallister, is accidentally left home alone when his family departs for a Christmas vacation. After a brief moment of shock that his wish for his family to disappear has come true, he revels in the advantages of the situation. Finally, he can do as he pleases around the house, watching movies and indulging in plain cheese pizza.
