Karen Gillan's transformation into Nebula for "Guardians of the Galaxy" was so profound that even her closest friends would have trouble recognizing her. Makeup artist David White likened it to assembling a complex five-piece puzzle. During the audition process, Gillan was informed that she would need to shave her head for the role. Initially, she agreed, assuming she wouldn't get the part. However, after a few screen tests, she realized she was cast and had to bid farewell to her locks.
