Responding with "Tuesday" is understandable, as it's easy to assume that the question about birthdate is already covered when you provide your identification with your birthdate. Nonetheless, A.T. was either buying a significant amount of alcohol or an upscale version, given that they didn't pause to wonder why the cashier was inquiring about the celebratory aspect of their purchase.
On the scale of embarrassment, he rates it a two, but it's still rather amusing. It's likely the only time someone has misinterpreted the cashier's question out of the thousands of times she's asked it. It would have been even funnier if she had been asking about the occasion and received the birthdate instead!
