Concerning Road Conditions in Cuba

Cuba has 38,000 miles of highways, nearly half inadequately maintained. Traveling by road in Cuba can be challenging, especially after dark. Many main roads lack proper lighting, and markings may be absent or confusing.

The poor condition of Cuban highways, combined with reckless driving and the wear and tear on vehicles caused by years of neglect, has led to increased traffic accidents, with an average of 29 injuries daily in the first half of 2019.
