The Embargo on Car Imports

Car imports into Cuba were prohibited until 2011, making most vehicles on the road being 1950s classics. Cuba's streets are still graced with vintage American cars from the 1940s and 1950s.

These classic American cars, painted in vibrant pink, red, and blue hues, line the streets and serve as taxis in Cuba. They are affectionately referred to as "almendrones" (large almonds), and their drivers are known as "boteros" (boatmen).
