The Attempted Conquest of Cuba
Throughout history, the United States repeatedly contemplated the conquest of Cuba. In 1848, they offered Spain $100 million in exchange for Cuba, but the offer was declined.
This event marked the zenith of the United States' expansionist endeavors in the Caribbean during the 1850s. The U.S. Ambassador to Spain, Pierre Soulé, was unsuccessful in securing the purchase of Cuba in 1853.
