Traumatized by the fact that his former lover no longer remembered him, Joel decided to go through the same memory erase once. The only problem was that by remembering why he loved her, he suddenly changed his mind. Now, he's trying his best to run away from the procedure and save Clementine's remains in his memory. Throughout Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, we see that their relationships have been ruined, only for them to find each other again on Montauk Beach on Long Island, New York.
