11. The Lake House
Alex and Kate live in the same house by the lake, only two years apart. The only way they can communicate is through leaving letters in the mailbox able to travel through time. When they know each other, they begin to love each other. The only problem is that they never seem to be able to meet.
The house in the movie was built in the Maple Lake Forest Preserve, located on the outskirts of Chicago. This is why there is a maple tree growing in the center of the greenhouse. After filming, the film crew must restore the landscape to its original state. So the glasshouse built for the movie was removed. Sandra Bullock was heartbroken to see it removed. She said: "I was very disappointed because I could not hold it; move it, and at least use it as a guesthouse somewhere."
