Reaching out to friends you haven't talked to in a while can be difficult, and offering to do them a favor is even more so. But, this nice friend did that anyway, only to be met with resistance.
So a distant friend reaches out to you to offer you not one, but two laptops to borrow for free, and you ask for their brand new one instead? At least they've got guts, but no one is going to lend them anything with an attitude like that.
