22. Good intentions that have turned sour.
EagerBrad, a Reddit user, was not personally involved in the hoarding story, but his parents had to suffer. They had thought they were doing a good deed by renting out their room to a young couple expecting a boy. Since the girl's mother was present during the viewing, it seemed that you would give some parental guidance. They only realized how young the young tenant was after she signed the lease and that maybe this wasn't the best idea? It doesn't get any better from there... "They had a kid, and let's say they weren't doing too well financially. The guy seemed to have wanted to take over and do whatever he could to raise this child with his young girlfriend/wife/whatever she was.
It turned out that this involved raising and selling snakes in small glass containers, breeding rats to feed the snakes, and doing so in an offensive manner. It took us almost an entire day to clean up after they left (we couldn't afford to stay). I'm not sure how the child wasn't critically ill, but washing up afterward and hearing that a child had been living there was very unsettling. The bath was caked with hardened dust/mud, and the ceiling needed scrubbing as well. It's one thing to be a slob (I'll readily confess to being untidy and messy), but that was another dimension altogether – particularly with a baby in the flat!"
