Hawaii's Big Island Is Growing Every Year
The Big Island of Hawaii boasts five volcanoes, with Kīlauea being the most active. Periodic eruptions from Kīlauea add approximately 42 acres of land to the island's total landmass each year. Interestingly, the destructive force of volcanic eruptions paradoxically contributes to real estate expansion.
Under local laws, these newly formed lands are considered government property. It's likely that, over time, these areas will be designated as national parks or nature reserves.
