The Only Royal Palace in the U.S., It is Located in Hawaii

Iolani Palace, situated in Honolulu, is the sole royal palace in the United States. It was illuminated with electric lights four years before the White House received electric lighting.

Originally constructed in 1845 by King Kamehameha III and subsequently used by other Hawaiian monarchs, the palace was replaced in 1882 with an American Florentine-style structure for the last two rulers of Hawaii, King Kalakaua and his sister and successor, Queen Liliuokalani. Today, visitors can explore the first and second floors of Iolani Palace.
