Hawaii's Rich Biodiversity Owes Much to Imports
Hawaii's warm and humid climate encourages a thriving ecosystem, but it also stems from the introduction of numerous plant and animal species from other regions. Nearly everything in Hawaii, from trees to humans to livestock, has been brought in from other countries.
Unfortunately, this influx of non-native species has led to the endangerment of many native animals. Native bird populations are at risk, and the native wildlife has declined by a staggering 70 percent.
