Snakes Prohibited in Hawaii
Hawaii has never been home to any native snake species, and the possession of pet snakes is strictly forbidden on the islands. Stringent inspections are carried out on foreign ships and planes to prevent contraband snakes from entering the state. However, there is one exception: the Brahminy Blind Snake, also known as the flowerpot snake, is a non-native species in Hawaii.
This snake species unwittingly arrived in the state in the past decade, concealed within potted plants imported from the Middle East. With an average length of 2.5 to 6.5 inches (6.35 to 16.5 cm), Hawaiians don't classify it as a snake because it poses no threat and is considered harmless.
