Houseplants can be rinsed from the bottom, but plants in the ground cannot. Therefore longer, deeper waterings are required to guarantee good profound root growth. Only water once a week, but for a much more extended period.
Watering in the chill of the early morning or late at night when the sun sets are both great times. On frigid evenings, try to avoid watering overnight because the cold and damp circumstances might favor rot or fungal growth. Always check the weather forecast before watering!
