You can use other natural ways to keep pests at bay throughout the summer, remove dead plants, weeding, and harvest vegetables and fruit as soon as possible. A few plants can be grown as natural bug repellent borders, and many safe, organic pesticides are effective.
Marigolds are well-known for their distinctive odor, which many insects, as well as deer, despise. A thick bed of marigolds around a food garden would help keep pests at bay. You can also use neem oil, vinegar sprays, and various other safe chemical remedies to treat or prevent insect infestations.
