Suppose you want to grow a specific shade of Hydrangea or an acid-loving plant-like Blueberries. In that case, the pH of your soil, which refers to its relative acidity or alkalinity, is critical. Some soils are more acidic or alkaline by nature than others, and other factors such as proximity to cutting trees such as pine trees can significantly impact the ground.
Many kits are available at garden centers and big-box stores that allow you to test your soil and get a reasonably accurate pH reading. If you plan a large landscaping project, take several pH tests throughout the project area because pH levels can vary greatly, even within relatively small areas.
