14.Hello, Bats!
While bats are frequently associated with witches, vampires, and Halloween, they are incredibly beneficial predators that consume many times their body weight in mosquitoes, gnats, and other bothersome bugs every night. They are excellent predators, capable of catching insects in mid-flight thanks to their sonar echolocation. At dusk, they're also a lot of fun to watch swooping through the trees.
Bats are typical in most urban and suburban areas; making them feel at home can be as simple as maintaining a lushly planted garden that produces the insects they prefer to eat. Contact your local extension service to installing a backyard bat house adequately if you genuinely want to make them feel at home.
