11. Prevent Mosquitoes

We can almost all agree that mosquitoes are the last thing we want in our garden. These blood-sucking parasites are not only irritating, but they may also spread diseases like West Nile and Dengue Fever. Their bites are painful and itchy, even if they are not infected.

To keep mosquitoes at bay, make sure there is no standing water in your garden, either in low spots or in empty containers such as flower pots or wheelbarrows. Mosquitoes love standing water, and any amount of it is ideal for reproduction. Use pesticides that are specifically formulated to kill mosquito eggs in ponds and water features.
