5. Sugar for hiccups
In many ways, Mary Poppins was correct. The sweetest approach to get rid of hiccups is with a spoonful of sugar. It is, in fact, one of the most widely advised methods for preventing hiccups in youngsters. It only takes a teaspoon to get the job done.
Because the sugar activates the vagus nerve, the body forgets about those pesky hiccups by resolving the muscle spasms that caused them in the first place. However, if you're not a child, don't get too excited; hiccups are far preferable to diabetes.
