Raj is the final piece of the original geek squad who has been with the show since the start. Raj is an astrophysicist from New Delhi who is closest to Howard. During the early seasons of the show, Raj had such severe social anxiety that he would be unable to speak whenever a woman was in the vicinity, a problem he discovered would diminish when he was drunk. Eventually, he managed to recover from his crippling anxiety.
