Limited Engagement with External Society
While Amish individuals respect laws and pay taxes, they engage with external society only when necessary.
Amish adults do not join the military or file lawsuits against one another or outsiders. Even police service is incompatible with their commitment to nonviolence, following the principle of "turning the other cheek."
