Amish Migration to North America
The roots of the Amish community can be traced back to Europe, with many of its members originating from the continent. During the 18th century, young reformers from Switzerland embarked on a journey to North America, driven by a quest for the same religious freedom sought by countless other immigrants of that era.
Their initial settlement was in Pennsylvania, and it is from this region that the term "Pennsylvania Dutch" originates. As time passed, more Amish immigrants arrived in the 19th century, leading to their gradual spread from Pennsylvania to eastern states, including Ohio, and eventually westward through the Midwest. This migration allowed the Amish community to establish a significant presence across different parts of the United States.
