Capone's a close call with the North Side Gang Ambush
Following the orchestrated assassination of O'Banion at his flower shop in 1924, Capone and Torrio found themselves plunged deeper into a vortex of trouble. They had intended to eliminate adversaries and potential future threats. Hymie Weiss, a man who would earn the moniker "the only man Al Capone feared," assumed leadership of the North Side Gang after O'Banion's demise. Weiss not only commanded fierce loyalty but was fueled by hatred and a thirst for vengeance. In January 1925, a significant contingent of North Side Gang members ambushed Capone on a seemingly random street corner, having carefully tracked his movements.
The ambush took Capone completely by surprise, but he miraculously emerged unscathed, save for the shock it induced. Although he walked away physically unharmed, the experience left him deeply shaken. After failing to eliminate Capone, the North Side Gang turned their sights on Torrio; this time, luck was not on his side.
