Theobromine levels vary with each type of chocolate. The highest concentrations are in cocoa, cooking chocolate, and dark chocolate. Moreover, milk chocolate and white chocolate have the lowest quantity. Eating just one ounce of dark chocolate can poison a 44-pound dog.

Owners should be cautious about where dogs hide chocolate treats because they taste sweetness. There is no antidote for this case. However, doctors can help prevent further absorption with specific procedures such as inducing vomiting before the poison is released into the dog's body.
