13. Ductwork from the past

Houses were heated with wood and coal from the cellar before the 1930s. No ducts were leading from the basement to the main building, and there was no fan to help circulate the sun. These older ducts will become leaky with time and may need to reinsulate. Insulating an older device will cost anything from $300 to $600.

One of the main disadvantages of old ductwork is that it is often incompatible with a central air conditioning system. You may be required to use box air conditioners if you live in an older house. All of the old ducts will have to be removed and replaced with new ones to install a current HVAC system. There is a significant work that usually costs about $12,000.
