34. Shangri La

Formerly Honolulu, Hawaii, the home of tobacco billionaire heir Doris Duke, now Shangri La estate is the Shangri La Museum of Islamic Culture, Design, and Art. The Islamic Arts Doris Duke Foundation is operating the property. Duke commissioned the construction of the house after she went on her honeymoon around the Muslim world.

Shangri La's architectural elements include Turkey, Morocco, Iran, Syria, Egypt, and Spain. The notorious Shalimar Gardens inspired a lot for the landscape of the site in Pakistan's Punjab province. The museum and the real estate have two Islamic visual artists holding exhibitions each year.
