31. Mary Todd Lincoln's house

Between 1803 and 1806, Mary Todd Lincoln House was initially built as an inn and a house in Lexington, Kentucky. It was initially named the Sign of the Forest, like a human Hobbit, a fascinating term. Mary Todd Lincoln's family moved to this house in 1832, where she lived until Springfield, Illinois.

The large Georgia-style house is now a public museum, home to many Lincoln and Todd families' artifacts. On an exciting note, a rebellious house girl and Madam who worked in the building near the end of the 20th century are said to have inspired Belle Watling's character in Gone with the Wind.
