21. Bishop Palace
The Bishop's Palace, in Galveston, Texas, is a classic example of rich Victorian architecture. Also known as Gresham Castle, the house was built entirely of stone from 1887 to 1893. It was strong enough to withstand the storm that hit the city in 1900, in which the Gresham family sheltered hundreds of people.
Walter Gresham, the original owner, is the Democratic Party representative for Texas. The house was later bought by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Galveston, which still owns the property; Now, it is open to the public with an organization that supports Catholic students located in the basement.
