The Henry Ford Estate
Edsel & Eleanor Ford House

15. The Henry Ford Estate

The principal residence of Ford Motor Company founder Henry Ford and his wife, Clara, in Dearborn, Michigan, was Fair Street, named after an area in Cork, Ireland. Built between 1913 and 1915, Frank Lloyd Wright undertook the initial design, but after Wright fled to Europe, an assistant completed it.

Thomas Edison laid the house's foundation and renowned architects and helped develop its hydropower electrical system. The home is built of limestone and uses the Prairie Style, a style typically found in the Midwest in the 19th and 20th centuries and distinguished by flat roofs and extensive horizontal lines.
