14. The House of the Seven Gables

The House of the Seven Gables in Salem, Massachusetts, was made famous by Nathaniel Hawthorne in his novel The House of the Seven Gables, also known as the Turner House. With several Georgian renovations added in the 18th century, the architecture is a blend of traditional Colonial architecture.

This historic home in the United States is named the House of the Seven Gables because it has seven gables, unsurprisingly. At the top of a building, a gable is a strong triangular peak over a window or door. The house is one of the oldest maintaining Colonial timber-framed homes in the United States, built-in 1667.
