12. The Wrigley Mansion
Who would have thought that chewing gum could encourage someone to build a house measuring 12,000 square feet? This vision became the truth of Wrigley chewing gum magnate William Wrigley Jr., who had noted architect Earl Heitschmidt construct the sprawling home in suburban Phoenix, Arizona. The Wrigley Mansion was his smaller residence, despite the size, and was only used for a few weeks each year.
The 24 bed, 12 bath home was constructed in a colonial style that is heavily Spanish, which is a lovely match for the desert landscape surrounding it. His asset currently operates as a private club leased for meetings and events to comply with zoning restrictions.
