2. Scotty’s Castle
Walter E. Scott, a con artist, and gold prospector persuaded Albert and Bessie Johnson of Chicago to construct this Spanish-style castle in Death Valley National Park, California, in 1922. Scott was the inspiration for the name, even though he never owned or resided there.
